I am an experienced and highly qualified tutor providing literacy support
for SEN children and teenagers struggling with reading, writing and spelling. I help students prepare for GCSE and A level exams by focusing on
skills that include: tackling exam questions, breaking down assignments and revising effectively.
Having worked extensively with children who have disengaged from traditional classrooms, I know that learning cannot happen without a foundation of safety and trust. I support young
people from ages 6 to 18, offering
specialized tutoring tailored for students experiencing school refusal and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA):
-
Connection First: For a child facing severe school
anxiety, traditional teaching methods do not work. My initial sessions focus entirely on building rapport, exploring interests, and lowering stress. If we spend the first hour talking about their favourite game or working with a Zoom
camera off, that is a successful step forward.
-
Substantial Experience: I have a good (and growing!)
understanding of neurodivergence (including Autism, ADHD, and PDA traits) and know how to adapt dynamically to a student's energy levels and
mental health on any given day.
